Jackie McNamara claims that Celtic have a notable advantage over English sides in trying to secure the capture of Birmingham City’s Mitchell Roberts.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Bhoys and Scotland ace says that the fact the Scottish transfer window is still open gives his old side the edge over those in England’s top flight and Championship, with the market south of the border closing at the start of August.
With Celtic having until September 2nd to bring in any new faces, the top two divisions in England having their window shut nearly a month earlier, McNamara insists the Hoops are in the driving seat for Roberts’ capture.
McNamara told Football Insider: “I suppose if they’re in, they’ve got time whereas for the big clubs their window’s shut, apart from the lower leagues.
“Celtic have got the advantage if they want to move for anybody right now over the English clubs.”
Roberts has never played for the Blues’ first-team but is highly thought of in the club’s under-23s setup, having joined back in 2011 after playing Sunday league football.
