Exclusive: Newcastle told to increase Elanga bid by £15m to finalise deal

Nottingham Forest have told Newcastle United to increase their offer for Anthony Elanga to match his new valuation in the summer transfer window.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have said about the 23-year-old’s future.

Last summer, the Magpies saw a £35million offer turned down, and they have now been told they must make a bid of at least £50million to land the winger.

Football Insider revealed on 11 June that Newcastle could step up their interest in Elanga after failing in their pursuit of Man United-bound Bryan Mbeumo.

The Sweden international scored six goals and provided 11 assists as he featured in every Premier League game for Forest this season, making him a key part of their plans.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 10 June that Elanga wants to join Newcastle as the Magpies are preparing to open talks.

Newcastle United learn new Anthony Elanga asking price

Elanga has been a long-term target for Eddie Howe’s side, and they remain determined to strengthen their wide options ahead of another Champions League campaign.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider on 13 June that Nottingham Forest are plotting to replace Elanga, with work ongoing behind the scenes to identify their options.

O’Rourke explained that the Forest star remains high on Newcastle’s list of targets and while Forest are reluctant to see him leave, it is “one to keep an eye on”.

Newcastle are long-term admirers of Elanga,” he told Football Insider.

“They tried to sign him last summer when they had a £35million bid rejected by Nottingham Forest.

“Elanga went on and had a great season for Forest with six goals in 43 appearances for them, he played a key role in their push for a top four finish before agonisingly missing out.

“Newcastle are desperate to bring in a right-winger in the upcoming transfer window.

“Elanga is somebody who is high up on their list.

“He’ll cost a decent fee if they are to prise him out of Nottingham Forest, that could be an issue for Newcastle because Forest are under no real pressure to sell.

“He’s under contract until 2028, and if they turned down £35million last summer, I think it will take well over £50million to tempt Forest to cash in.

“He’s definitely on the list of Newcastle targets, so he’s one to keep an eye on.”

Anthony Gordon update emerges at St James’ Park

Amid ongoing speculation about potential incoming wingers at St James’ Park, they may also lose a star in that position with Anthony Gordon.

Football Insider revealed on 13 June that Newcastle could accept £75million offers for Gordon amid growing interest from Liverpool this summer.

However, they remain determined to keep hold of their star man, and it would take a “huge” fee to persuade them to sell while the deal has been described as “difficult”.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 22 May that Gordon is still on Arne Slot’s radar as Liverpool are prepared to reignite their interest.
