EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke
Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates is close to joining Rotherham United on loan, Football Insider sources understands.
Rotherham are in advanced talks with Forest over a loan deal until January for Yates as they look to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes on Friday.
Yates is highly-regarded at Forest and signed a new deal until 2021 earlier this summer at the City Ground.
Yates is well down the pecking order in Aitor Karanka’s first-team plans at Forest and, with his opportunities looking limited, a well-placed source has told Football Insider they have granted permission for him to spend the season at a rival Championship club.
The 20-year-old enjoyed two spells out on loan last season at League Two Notts County and League One Nottingham Forest and Forest feel Yates would benefit by going out on loan again this season to a second-tier club.
Several Championship sides have expressed an interest in taking Yates on loan, but Rotherham are in pole position to land the midfielder before Friday’s transfer deadline.
In other Nottingham Forest news, Football Insider can REVEAL the club have AGREED the terms of a sensational £6million striker transfer.
