EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke
Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates is in advanced talks about signing a new deal at the club, Football Insider understands.
The 21-year-old has come through the ranks at the City Ground and he is highly regarded within the corridors of power.
A Forest source has told Football Insider that he is set to be offered a two-year extension to his current deal, which would keep him at the club until 2023.
Yates’ current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2021.
The all-action midfielder established himself in the Forest side in the second half of last season, making 16 starts among 17 appearances in all competition.
Yates has enjoyed spells out on loan at Barrow, Shrewsbury, Notts County and Scunthorpe in the last few years before finally establishing himself at his parent club.
Talks over a new deal come at a difficult time for the rising star, who is expected to be sidelined for around two months after having surgery on his knee.
Yates has had a minor operation to cure a long-standing problem, which had flared up again when he reported back for pre-season training.
In other Nottingham Forest news, it can be REVEALED that the club are in the hunt to sign a proven Premier League player with nearly 200 appearances at that level.
