Exclusive: Whelan reacts as L'Equipe report last-ditch Leeds bid to sign colossus
Noel Whelan has claimed that Leeds United must work quickly if they are to complete a deal for St. Etienne defender Harold Moukoudi.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Elland Road striker suggested that his former club have left themselves little time to get a deal over the line for the 22-year-old.
As reported by L’Equipe, the Whites are keen on bringing the Cameroon international to England before the transfer window closes later this week.
But Whelan has emphasised that time is very much of the essence for any potential switch.
“You can only get in what you can get in,” he told Football Insider.
“They’ve left everything very, very late – there’s no doubt about that. They have to work very, very quickly now.

“You’ve got Kalvin Phillips suspended now for three games, we know we’ve played Ben White in that position before, so will it be a case of getting this centre-half in and he goes straight in alongside Liam Cooper?
“We do know that the Cameroonians are very physical, usually very quick, so it’ll be interesting to see how that one plays out.”
Moukoudi currently plies his trade over in Ligue 1, and made his debut for Cameroon in a 0-0 friendly draw with Tunisia back in October, despite representing France at youth international level.
The towering centre-back stands at 6’3″ tall and has made 11 starts for St. Etienne in the league so far this term.
In other Leeds news, Whelan claims it’s ‘Definitely’ time for in-demand midfielder to quit Elland Road.
