Expert: Tottenham expected to complete Sam Johnstone deal in June after source’s update
The potential signing of West Brom stopper Sam Johnstone ticks every box for Tottenham.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
On Sunday (3 April) Football Insider revealed Tottenham are keeping close tabs on Johnstone, 29, and watched him in West Brom’s clash against Birmingham City later that day.

This comes after this site revealed on 24 March that Spurs will not make Pierluigi Goliini’s loan move permanent this summer.
Wenham claims Johnstone would make a “really good” signing and suggested he could take the number one spot off Huge Lloris.
“For me, he ticks all the boxes,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He’s a Premier League quality goalkeeper, it’s a free transfer, he’s homegrown and he’s an England international.
“I think he is genuinely someone who can impress in training and who knows where that leads?
“Lloris is firmly the number one but he’s 35 now so if Johnstone comes and impresses, who knows?
“I think it’s a really good signing on a free transfer. FA rules prevent us from signing him on a free contract until there is one month to run on his existing deal.
“Any contract in England runs until 30 June so he would only be able to sign from 30 May, so we could do that.

“The season is already over at that point so there is no conflict of a player potentially playing against the team they have just signed for.
“I would be pleased with this deal, it looks a really smart piece of business.”
