'Flogged in the summer' – Newcastle fans have had it with one man after draw v Antwerp

Joselu played in the friendly game with Antwerp that was notable for being played over three halves of 45 minutes each, and Newcastle fans were frustrated as their striker still didn’t manage to score.

The 135-minute game was played to give each manager a chance to work on match fitness for as many players as possible.

It didn’t end up being that friendly a game though and it was played aggressively by both sides, with some nasty challenges coming in.

Neither manager would have wanted that, but as Matt Ritchie said afterwards, “It was competitive but we want to compete in every game, whether it’s 5-a-side or a game in the park.”

That’s all well and good and fans love to hear that sort of stuff, but Rafa Benitez would have looked on in horror at some of the tackles, especially one towards the end of the 90 minutes on Mikel Merino.

Meanwhile, Newcastle fans looked on in horror as Joselu floundered to score, although he was a hit afterwards with Spanish fans queueing to get his autograph.
