Patrick Roberts is coming to the end of his loan spell with Celtic, and is likely to return to Manchester City at the end of the season.
Reports suggest Celtic are already planning for life without the young star, who has been a fantastic addition to the ranks.
Arsenal youngster Chris Willock has been identified as one potential replacement for Roberts this summer, but there are a host of emerging Premier League talents that will appear on the Celtic radar in the coming months.
Football Insider reveals three talents that Brendan Rodgers should pursue in the next transfer window, if they lose Roberts.
Currently on loan in the Championship with Bristol City, Abraham would be one of the better options out there from the Premier League’s academy pool.
He has excelled in the second tier, contributing 21 goals and four assists from 39 appearances this season, but will likely face a battle to earn first-team berth at parent club Chelsea next season.
Even in his current form, Abraham would struggle to displace the likes of Diego Costa and Eden Hazard from the Stamford Bridge first-team, and another loan move could be a viable option.
However, after proving himself in the Championship, a move to a Premier League club or a club like Celtic with Champions League football would be the next step.
He would offer Rodgers’ side creativity, goals and much more, and he should be at the top of the list if made available this summer.
Tottenham have a fantastic group of young players currently emerging through the ranks in the academy to become first-team players, and Marcus Edwards will be the next name to make a big impact.
The 18-year-old is rated very highly by Mauricio Pochettino, but has still to make a splash in the first team in either Europe or the Premier League.
Edwards was handed his debut by the Tottenham boss during the EFL Cup win over Gillingham in September, but he has yet to follow up his brief cameo appearance with another first team bow.
But he has continued to impress in the reserve side with four goals and four assists from 10 matches, and is another young star that would benefit from a loan move.
Edwards would be a like-for-like replacement for Roberts on the right-side of midfield, but it may take Pochettino a little convincing to let him leave on loan.
Rodgers will be extremely familiar with the Liverpool academy setup from his days as Anfield boss, and could choose to raid his former club for one of their young stars.
The likes of Ben Woodburn and Sheyi Ojo could be decent additions, but Harry Wilson would be the best pick from the bunch.
Wilson, 19, is the current captain of the Liverpool Under-23 side, and has a big future ahead of him with the club after signing a new deal in the summer.
He has eight goals and six assists for the academy side this season, and made his senior debut in the FA Cup replay with Plymouth back in January.
Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the player and is likely to introduce him into the first team setup during pre-season, but a loan move to Celtic would also be a worthwhile step in his development.
In other Celtic transfer news, forget Chelsea, this PL club is the perfect destination for Moussa Dembele.
