French outfit Metz are convinced that they can secure the signature of Newcastle United striker Emmanuel Riviere ahead of Osmanlispor this summer, according to a report.
France Football claims that the Ligue 1 side have been working for a number of weeks to complete a deal for the 27-year-old.
The newspaper reports that Metz are optimistic that they can secure a move for the Frenchman and ambush Turkish side Osmanlispor, who are in advanced pursuit of the player.
This follows up from the story in football news website Futbol Arena which reported that Riviere had agreed a deal to join Osmanlispor this summer.
The forward has failed to have the desired impact since securing a permanent move to St James’ Park three years ago.
The Frenchman has only managed to notch up three goals for the Tyneside club and he spent last season out on loan with Spanish outfit Osasuna who found themselves relegated from La Liga.
The striker currently has one year remaining on his contract with Newcastle.
Football Insider verdict
It appears that Riviere’s nightmare in English football will soon be coming to an end. The striker has failed to develop his footballing career at Newcastle and his departure from Tyneside is probably the best solution for both parties. The Frenchman was not even considered good enough to help Newcastle achieve promotion back to the English top flight last season therefore he is unlikely to play a significant role in the upcoming campaign. The striker might just be keen to return to his native country in order to reignite his career and try and stake a claim to be involved in the France national team in next year’s World Cup in Russia.
