Garry Monk delivers honest verdict on Leeds performance after defeat v Barnsley

By Alex Stevens

Garry Monk has said that he was “frustrated’ after the defeat in the Championship away at Barnsley on Saturday, but added that they have to accept that they can’t perform at a high level every game.

The 3-2 defeat came on the back of six undefeated games in the Championship, including five wins.

Leeds dropped a place to fourth in the league following Huddersfield’s 2-0 win against Ipswich, but they’re five points clear of seventh-placed Derby.

Talking to the Yorkshire Evening Post after the game, Monk said it was “a disappointing result and we’re frustrated to lose the game.

“We were slightly off defensively, particularly in the second half.

“In the second half they get two quick goals and from our point of view they’re poor goals to concede.

“We’ve been playing at such a high standard so we will have this odd game now and then where we don’t perform at our usual high levels.”

Barnsley moved up to eighth in the Championship with the win over their Yorkshire rivals, and they’re now just seven points behind Leeds in the chase for the play-off places.

With both Newcastle and Brighton winning over the weekend, Leeds are now nine points off the automatic promotion spots and a play-off place must be the realistic target now.

They play struggling Nottingham Forest next, on Wednesday night at Elland Road, and fans will be hoping for a return to form for the Whites.
