21-yr-old must be regretting decision: Three things learned about Rangers in win v Kilmarnock
Bates must be wishing he had waited
David Bates surprised everyone when it was confirmed he was joining Hamburg in the summer when his Rangers contract ends – but the defender must be regretting his decision after the Gers confirmed Steven Gerrard as their new boss.
Bates is exactly the type of player who fits the model of what Gerrard has consistently said he likes as player and the chance to have stayed at Ibrox and played under the Liverpool icon would surely have been a massive attraction for the former Raith defender.
The 21-year-old will learn a huge amount in Germany and will undoubtedly become a better player for the experience although he must surely be wondering ‘what if’ when it comes to the imminent arrival of Gerrard.
Bates scored his first senior goal in his final Ibrox appearance as he now prepares to move on the the German giants at the end of the month.
