Goldson tipped by Campbell to make Rangers U-turn after offer rejected - pundit

Connor Goldson could make a Rangers U-turn and stay at the club after rejecting an offer to stay, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 29-year-old “gains nothing” by committing his future anywhere this month.

According to the Scottish Sun (23 January) promotion-chasing Championship clubs Nottingham Forest and West Brom are fighting to land the centre-back on a pre-contract deal as he enters the final six months of his deal.

However, the Scottish Daily Express (24 January) claims that Goldson would be a “open” to penning fresh terms at Ibrox if Rangers could secure Champions League football by winning the Scottish Premiership.

A Rangers source has told Football Insider that Goldson has already knocked back a contract offer from the club at the end of last year.

Campbell claimed that the possibility of a U-turn is firmly on the cards.

“I think Goldson is in a position to bide his time,” he told Football Insider.

“I don’t think he has to make a decision now – why would you?

“At the end of the day, if things don’t work out at Rangers, then why not test the market? He’s been a loyal servant to the club.

“He’s proven his ability, he’s been part of the title-winning side. He has performed.

“Come the end of the season, he’ll be talking to Rangers as well as other clubs and seeing what’s on offer then.

“It would be remiss of me to say he should be signing at Rangers because he’s earned the right to explore his options. He’s in the last six months of his contract, and he gains nothing from making a move now.

“He’s got three superb options on the table there. The chance to play Premier League football could be the carrot on the stick, but who knows?”

In other news, a pundit has claimed Rangers have already got a ‘brilliant’ Ianis Hagi replacement in the building.
