Rangers fans favourite Clint Hill announced his retirement a few days ago and has already landed a new role after being confirmed as part of Joey Barton’s backroom staff at Fleetwood Town – and Gers fans were quick to pass their best wishes to the veteran.

The veteran defender brought the curtain down on a 20-year career as a player and has quickly been snapped up by Barton as he takes his first steps into management.

Fleetwood confirmed the appointment on their official Twitter account on Monday afternoon.

Gers fans hoped Hill the best in his new job – with one saying Fleetwood should expect a “few bears down for some games.”

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

Hill only spent a single season at Ibrox but quickly made a big impact with fans for his no-nonsense displays.

The former QPR, Tranmere Rovers and Stoke City defender made that much of a mark at Ibrox that Gers fans regularly travelled across the border once he left the Gers to see him in action for Carlisle United after signing for them after leaving.

Hill made 31 appearances, scoring six times, during his sole season at Ibrox – including a late Old Firm equaliser at Celtic Park in March 2017.
