West Brom are looking at making a “safe signing” in the shape of Everton’s Mason Holgate, according to Darren Bent.
The former Aston Villa and England forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and England forward says that the Baggies can hardly go wrong with the 22-year-old’s capture after having had him on their books for the second half of last season.
Bent says that Holgate must have made an impression during his temporary stint from the Premier League side and insists it would be a savvy swoop if they can pull it off.
“He went to West Brom and did okay. It’s obviously good that West Brom want to bring him back,” Bent told Football Insider
“Listen, for West Brom, he knows the club, it’s a safe signing, he was there on loan season. If West Brom can get him then that’s a great bit of business for them.”
Holgate made a total of 23 appearances for the Baggies last season, 21 of those coming in the club’s Championship campaign on the way to the play-off semi-finals.
He has 48 senior appearances for Everton under his belt, 38 of which have come in the Premier League, while he also featured in League One with Barnsley back in 2014.
In other West Brom news, Bent has said the club will miss their “scary” star massively after being sold this summer.
