West Ham could sign a “hell of an athlete” as they target a deal for Wigan Athletic left-back Antonee Robinson, according to Alex Bruce.
The former Wigan and Hull defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has lifted the lid on what sort of player the 22-year-old could be for the Irons.
As revealed by Football Insider, the seven-cap USA ace is a top target for the Hammers this summer as they look to strengthen on their left flank.
It is likely Robinson could cost in the region of £10million, with Wigan facing serious financial difficulties after going into administration.
Bruce insists that players like his old teammate are hard to come by and suggests there will be plenty of suitors this summer.
Bruce told Football Insider: “Left-backs are very, very difficult to find, it’s been proven over the years.
“I played with Robbo at Wigan, I’ve seen his potential first-hand. He’s got huge attributes, he’s a hell of an athlete, a good size, a typical modern-day player.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if there were a number of clubs sniffing around him, especially considering the situation Wigan find themselves in now which is a real shame.”
Robinson has played 37 times across all competitions for Wigan this season, with his only goal coming against Millwall back in November.
He saw a high-profile move to AC Milan collapse due to a previously undiscovered heart condition in January.
