Hutton: This is why Everton will struggle to appoint manager after Friday talks
Alan Hutton insists Everton will struggle to find a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti this summer.
The former Aston Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, was left stunned as the Italian sensationally quit the Toffees last week.
On Friday 4th June, Football Insider revealed Everton were gearing up for Friday talks with ex-Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
It is understood Nuno is Farhad Moshiri’s first choice to take over with contact already made with Nuno’s agent Jorge Mendes over a potential deal.
Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Wolves are all looking for new managers ahead of the 2021/22 season.
As such, Hutton is predicting a challenge as Everton look for a fifth permanent manager in as many years.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was shocked,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“We were playing golf. One of my mates said Ancelotti was in talks with Madrid, I genuinely couldn’t believe it.
“As a manager, he’s been able to bring a standard of player through the door. Like James Rodriguez.
“They had the makings of a good team, they just needed to fill it out a little bit.
“Everton fans will be disappointed. They were probably over the moon when they saw his name linked with them.
“I understand to a certain extent. There arent many people out there who will turn down Real Madrid, to be brutally honest.
“You have got to feel for the supporters, they were excited about what Everton could do moving forward.
“It’s another vacancy that is going to be hard to fill, all these teams seem to be going for the same people.”
In other news, pundit is stunned by “unbelievable” move Kenwright has made behind the scenes at Everton.
