Rangers midfielder Ovie Ejaria has revealed that he was “excited” when he heard Steven Gerrard wanted to bring him to Ibrox after joining the Gers on a season-long loan.
Ejaria revealed that he spoke to some of the staff who followed Gerrard to Ibrox from Anfield as he pondered making the move north.
The England youth international also admitted that it is a “privilege” to learn from Gerrard as he gets used to his new surroundings.
“Everyone knows Steven Gerrard was a top-class player so it’s a privilege to be able to learn from him.
“I was excited (to hear of Gerrard’s interest), coming from a top player that he was.”
Football Insider verdict:
Ejaria looks as though he will be an important player in Gerrard’s squad and working under the Liverpool leged will surely help the midfielder improve. Gerrard’s arrival at Ibrox has made the Gers a much more attractive proposition to players. The Light Blue need to make a strong start to the season and put pressure on Celtic. Ejaria might not come into the side straight away but he will have an important role to play as he tries to show Jurgen Klopp he deserves a first-team place at Anfield. Ejaria’s signing is probably the lowest-profile of all the moves the Gers have made but he could be the one that excites fans the most as he tries to make a name for himself in Scotland. There’s clearly a talented player there – the four-year deal given by Liverpool before he moved to Ibrox is evidence of that – and will be an exciting addition to the squad.
