'I would love to play for Rangers' – International striker issues come and get me to Gerrard
Oli McBurnie has issued a very strong come-and-get-me plea to new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, ahead of a possible summer move.
McBurnie has never hidden the fact that he’s a Rangers fan but has been fairly non-committal about his future, until now.
The Swansea striker is said to be set for crunch talks over a move away from Swansea, after he won his fourth cap for Scotland in the 1-0 defeat to Mexico.
Talking in the Daily Record he said: “Linked with Rangers every week? ‘Tell me about it – and my tweeting probably doesn’t help.
“I am a Rangers fan and said recently that whatever happens I want Steven Gerrard to go there and do as well as he can. I want Rangers to get back to where they belong.
“Whether that’s with me there or not? It is what it is – I just want them to get back to where they should be.

“I’ve always said, all my life, I would love to play for Rangers. Whether it’s now or not, it is what it is.
“It wasn’t as close as everyone was saying in January. I had three definite options in the end and Rangers were not one of them.
“I want to be somewhere I can play every week and be the main man.”
McBurnie is rated at £900k by Transfermarkt.com.
Football Insider verdict:
Has McBurnie got the ability to be the main man for Rangers, week in, week out? In all honesty the jury is still out on that one. McBurnie has never managed to produce for Swansea in the Premier League. He might not have had much of a run but he has made 11 appearances – albeit mostly as cameos – without scoring. He had a much better run in the Championship, where he scored nine goals in 17 games for struggling Barnsley, and this suggests that he could be just as prolific in the Premiership for Rangers if he’s given the chance. Now that Gerrard has officially joined Rangers, McBurnie has obviously decided that this is the time to make his intentions clear. It’s interesting that he said that a deal wasn’t close in January and that three other teams had come in with offers. That suggests that he won’t be short of suitors again this summer, with Championship teams like Leeds also being linked to his name. One potential hurdle could be Gerrard making Dominic Solanke his number one target. That’s a deal that could take time to get over the line and it might be that a move for McBurnie can’t be considered until that is sorted one way or another.
