Ian Taylor has lambasted Aston Villa’s stuttering stars as they suffered a 2-0 Championship loss to Newcastle on Monday night.
Yoann Gouffran and an own goal from new signing Henri Lansbury saw Villa’s winless run stretch to 10 games, leaving them in a dismal 17th place in the Championship table.
Former Villa midfielder Taylor claimed on his personal Twitter account that it was “déjà vu” to see Villa concede from two set-pieces, declaring that his old side “can’t defend”.
Deja vu last night. We can't defend. 2 set pieces 2 goals even though again didn't look too bad early on. Boy do we need to dig in!! 😳 #UTV

Steve Bruce’s side now sit just six points above the Championship drop zone, and 22 away from the second tier’s top six despite pre-season hopes of an instant return to the Premier League.
The promotion expert brought in eight new players in January including the likes of Scott Hogan, Henri Lansbury and Conor Hourihane, but they have failed to hit the ground running.
Newcastle’s victory in the north east has seen them return to the top, while Villa have now lost five consecutive matches after losses to Brentford, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich and Barnsley.
Bruce will be hoping to raise morale in training this week before his Midlands outfit play host to Steve McClaren’s Derby County on Saturday, who are without a win in four games.
The promotion expert could be without attacking duo Scott Hogan and Jonathan Kodjia though, after both strikers picked up injuries on Monday night.
