Steve Bruce delivers bleak injury update for Aston Villa 24-year-old, fans will be concerned

By Will Butcher

Steve Bruce is facing an anxious wait for x-ray results after an injury sustained by Aston Villa’s Scott Hogan, but has said he thinks the injury is ‘bad enough’.

Hogan, 24, was stretchered off in Villa’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle, after falling awkwardly on his right ankle.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail after Villa’s fifth consecutive loss, Bruce said that he will not know the extent of Hogan’s injury until the striker has a scan within the next 48 hours.

Former Sunderland and Hull manager Bruce also lost Ivory Coast international Jonathan Kodjia during the heavyweight clash in the north east, before losing Hogan to injury.

“Our night has been compounded with Scotty, who looks as if he’s turned his ankle,” said Bruce.

“The kid doesn’t think it’s as serious as it looks but until he’s had a scan and x-ray in the next 48 hours or so, we won’t know more. Fingers crossed it’s not bad but I think it will be bad enough.”

Bruce’s outlook will be of real concern to Villa fans who are facing consecutive relegation battles.

Yoann Gouffran and an own goal from new signing Henri Lansbury saw Villa’s winless run extend to ten games, as the Midlands outfit remain just six points above the relegation zone.

Villa may now be forced to rely upon the likes of Gabby Agbonlahor against Derby on Saturday if Kodjia’s knock keeps him out of contention too.

Agbonlahor is yet to score in 12 appearances this season.

Hogan, who signed from Championship rivals Brentford for a fee rising to £12million in January, is also yet to score in claret and blue across four appearances for Villa.

In other Aston Villa news, Bruce has slammed this regular star for his hideous play against the Toon.
