Alan Hutton admits he is over the moon that Rangers managed to keep hold of Alfredo Morelos past Monday’s transfer deadline.
The former Gers defender and boyhood fan at Ibrox, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the 24-year-old could be the difference between the Light Blues and Celtic this season.
However, the striker is still a Rangers player after Monday’s deadline and will now not have the chance to leave before the market opens up again in January.
Hutton admits the Colombian has not been himself for a while but believes that a refocused Morelos could fire the Light Blues to the Premiership title.
Hutton told Football Insider: “I’m really happy, honestly, as a player I think he’s brilliant at what he does. It’s a shame he got his head turned, in my opinion, starting from last season.
“I think you have to factor that into some of his performances. Yes, his attitude’s not been great but his head was definitely turned on probably a big-money move. I said when I saw him in the Dundee United game it was probably the best I’ve seen him and that’s not just playing, that was attitude-wise.
“Gerrard’s probably had a word with him, he’s got his head down and he’s worked hard, scored some important goals because I do believe he could be the difference.
“With the boys that he’s brought in, especially the forward-thinking boys with him as your main striker, scoring goals, that could be the difference between winning the league and not. I’m really glad they’ve managed to keep hold of him.”
Morelos has scored three goals and chipped in with another two assists in the league for Rangers so far this season.
