Steven Gerrard plans to use Sheyi Ojo in three different positions at Rangers next season as he closes in on a season-long loan move, Football Insider understands.
The Liverpool attacker, 21, is poised to become the Glasgow giants’ fifth summer signing after arriving at their Auchenhowie training headquarters on Monday to undergo a medical and finalise terms.
Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Gerrard’s masterplan is to use left-footed Ojo on the right side of the attack, down the left flank and also as a central number 10.
The Liverpool icon is attracted by the Anfield youngster’s pace, touch and dribbling ability, as well as a versatility which will enable him to try out different combinations behind the main centre-forward.
Rangers are confident of finalising the deal in time for Ojo to link up with the senior squad at their pre-season training camp in Portugal later this week.
He is set to follow midfielder Steven Davis and attackers Jordan Jones, Greg Stewart and Jake Hastie in agreeing terms with the 54-times league winners this summer, as they look to narrow the gap on Celtic.
Football Insider revealed last week that Ojo has agreed the terms of a new five-year contract with Liverpool, which comes after he signed his most recent agreement with the club only 10 months ago.
Gerrard is also still working on a deal to sign Scottish Young Player of the Year Ryan Kent on loan for a second consecutive campaign, although that is unrelated to the Ojo deal and Rangers believe they can bring in both the Liverpool men ahead of next season.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that Celtic have hijacked transfer just as Ibrox deal is close.
