Igor Thiago beats Bruno Fernandes and Declan Rice to make Brentford history as Premier League make announcement

Igor Thiago has been named Premier League Player of the Month for November after a superb month.

Brentford have hit the jackpot with Thiago, who arrived in a club-record £30million deal from Belgian side Club Brugge in 2024.

But the striker would make just eight appearances across all competitions in his first season, with knee injuries chaining the Brazilian to the injury table.

Thiago is now attracting interest from Aston Villa, among others, with the 24-year-old having scored 11 goals in just 15 Premier League appearances since his return.

Brentford are keen to keep hold of Thiago in January, however, and will likely listen to offers in the summer worth far more than what they paid just 18 months ago.

Igor Thiago marks Brentford first

On current form, Thiago is a striker who could easily be seen leading the line for much of the Premier League.

Only Erling Haaland has outscored the Brazilian this season, and the forward has proved a real handful for defenders.

Constant running, incessant battling, and elite finishing often see Thiago giving even the best of defences real problems.

His November flurry began with a brace against Newcastle United, with the Brazilian scoring a penalty before capitalising on a loose pass to slot home his second.

A trip to Brighton would see his team lose, but Thiago add another goal from the spot after Dango Ouatarra had been fouled.

A third penalty would go in for the striker against Burnley, before he slammed home a winning goal on the half volley four minutes from time.

Thiago has beaten Arsenal‘s Declan Rice, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku to win November’s Player of the Month award.

With it, he becomes the first Brentford player in history to receive the individual accolade.

Igor Thiago’s first words after making history

After such a difficult first season, few would have expected such a stunning turnaround from Thiago at Brentford.

Not least the striker himself, who said as much after receiving the award. “It means so much to me,” the 24-year-old told Brentford.

“I’m really happy to receive this because it means my hard work on the pitch has paid off. I’m surprised! But hopefully I can receive more of these this season. I’m so happy and proud of myself.”

Brentford will be aware that, with every individual award, Thiago is attracting more interest for himself outside of the club. But the Bees will be sure to increase that price tag at the same rate.
