'Chased from Ibrox' - BBC pundit speaks out over Rangers striker after transfer claim

BBC Scotland pundit Tam McManus thinks whoever at Rangers decided not to allow Alfredo Morelos to leave in January should be “immediately chased from Ibrox” following the Colombian’s performance against Celtic in Sunday’s 4-0 Scottish Cup humiliation.

The 21-year-old again missed a number of chances to score as he failed to hit the net against the Hoops again and extended his barren spell against Brendan Rodgers’ side.

McManus thinks the Rangers striker is “bang average” and believes he has a “stinking attitude” towards his team-mates.

“I’m not usually right but I am on Morelos,” McManus said on his personal Twitter account.

“If Rangers did indeed knock back 8m for him (doubtful) whoever sanctioned it should be immediately chased from Ibrox. Bang average. And a stinking attitude towards his team mates to boot.”

McManus has been a huge sceptic of whether or not Rangers received a bid for the Colombian from China earlier this year despite it being widely reported by every media outlet in the country, confirmed by the Ibrox giants and his BBC colleague Khereddine Idessane seeing proof of the bids.

Morelos struggled to get going at all at Hampden but should have done better with the chances that fell his way as the Gers’ run without a win over their bitter rivals was extended to 10 games.

Football Insider verdict

The criticism of Morelos from McManus is bordering on the weirdly-obsessive. To call any striker who has hit more league goals than all-but-one player ‘bang average’ is a ridiculous statement from McManus – regardless of how many chances the Colombian does miss. Morelos has scored more goals this season in the Scottish Premiership this season than anyone who is not named Kris Boyd despite being in an under-performing team in a country that he does not speak the language. There are still massive areas of improvement for Morelos but to suggest he is ‘bang average’ is just trying to be controversial for controversy’s sake.
