Insider expects Tottenham to be 'clever' and exploit Newcastle takeover after transfer report

Tottenham can benefit from Newcastle’s takeover by selling the club their fringe players.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Harry Winks, 26, has only been handed four appearances in all competitions and one start in the Premier League under Nuno this season.

This site revealed on 9th June that recruitment chief Fabio Paratici was telling Winks the club would listen to offers for him in the summer.

The Telegraph (9 October) report Newcastle’s new Saudi owners will target tried and tested Premier League players in January.

Wenham claims there are few clubs more attractive to players like Winks than Newcastle and insists this is a move that could happen.

“Harry Winks will certainly make an improvement to Newcastle,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“That’s one way the takeover could benefit Tottenham. It gives us a chance to shift some of those players we don’t need.

“That’s probably the clever thing to do.

“It works for Newcastle because Winks is still a talented player and it works for us because he’s not playing.

“There can’t be many more attractive options than joining Newcastle at the moment.

“I’ve said before that I think Winks will leave us soon, why not Newcastle?

“They can pay his wages and pay the fee and he walks straight into that team.

“That’s an attractive option to Harry, I’m sure.”

There is plenty of competition in the midfield at Tottenham with Winks right at the back of the pecking order.

Spurs’ next game is against Newcastle this weekend.
