Insider ‘really excited’ as Tottenham agree Sayers deal

Tottenham fans should be excited after the club confirmed the signing of Charlie Sayers from Southend.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham confirmed the capture of Sayers, 17, on Tuesday (7 December).

This came after Football Insider revealed on 3 December the defender would be offered a three-year pro deal.

Tottenham had been in the market for a young left-back after losing Dennis Cirkin, 19, to Sunderland in August, in a deal first revealed by Football Insider.

Wenham claims Sayers will be eyeing Cirkin’s former spot in the Under 23 side.

“I knew he was going to sign as soon as he captained the Under 18s last week,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We wouldn’t have given him the armband if he was still on trial.

“From what I understand he’s already trained with the Under 23s as well.

“Everything else I have heard about him is really exciting. He’s already played for Southend’s senior side.

“He can carry that experience into the Under 18s and he will be looking at a space in the Under 23s too.

“Dennis Cirkin left and joined Sunderland in the summer and we haven’t replaced him.

“So, is there a chance for him to go even further straight away? I wouldn’t rule it out.

“This is a really exciting move and I can’t wait to follow Sayers’ development.”

It is understood Sayers is a lifelong Tottenham fan.

The defender had made six National League appearances this season before joining Spurs.

In other news, 24-year-old is “100 per cent” planning to quit Tottenham in January.
