Isaac Hayden delivers Newcastle battle cry ahead of Birmingham FA Cup clash

By Will Butcher

Isaac Hayden has called for Newcastle to maintain a positive attitude against Birmingham City on Wednesday night in the FA Cup.

The Toon face Gianfranco Zola’s Birmingham in a third-round FA Cup replay, after the two sides drew 1-1 at St. Andrew’s Stadium on January 7.

Hayden, a summer signing from Arsenal, called for the Toon to “keep improving” and reminded his teammates that “attitude is everything” on his personal Twitter account.

Versatile midfielder Hayden has become an integral part of Rafa Benitez’s side in recent months, as Jack Colback struggles to recapture his Premier League form.

Forming a strong partnership in the middle of the park with England international Jonjo Shelvey, Newcastle’s number 14 has made a total of 27 league and cup appearances.

He is expected to start against Zola’s Midlands giants at St. James’ Park, and could see former Liverpool ace Shelvey partner him in the middle of midfield after his teammate has served his five-match ban.

Midfield maestro Shelvey had to miss five of Newcastle’s matches after racially abusing Wolves’ Moroccan star Romain Saiss, but is now available for the first time since the Burton game on December 17.

A win for the Toon will see them secure a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup, with an away trip to League One side Oxford United on January 28 waiting.

In other Newcastle news, here are three reasons why the Toon should offload this 24-year-old star.
