New Rangers star Connor Goldson has revealed that he feels there is a “lot of optimism” around the Ibrox giants after completing his move from Brighton – and claimed it is a “perfect time” to be joining the Light Blues.
Goldson became the Gers’ sixth signing of the summer last week when he agreed a move north and admitted it has been a “tough few years” for the Light Blues.
The former Shrewsbury ace also thinks there is a growing excitement surrounding Scottish football – with Gers manager Steven Gerrard’s appointment pleasing Gers fans.
“I know it has been a tough few years, but I feel like there is a lot of optimism around the club and I feel this is the perfect time for me to be joining.
“I feel like the whole Scottish League is getting more excitement around it. I feel there have been a few big attractions in the last few years who have come to Scottish football, and I think that has just raised the level of awareness around it.”
Football Insider verdict:
There’s definitely an excitement surrounding Scottish football that hasn’t been there in recent years and that is, in large part, down to Steven Gerrard’s appointment. The Light Blues faithful have got fully behind the Liverpool icon and have snapped up a record number of season tickets – with a number of other clubs doing similar this summer. Goldson is right that it’s a perfect time to be signing for the Gers with huge attention on the Ibrox giants and Scottish football in general. With the Scottish Premiership gearing up for what should be its closest title race in years, we could be in for one of the most exciting campaigns north of the border since well before the Gers were kicked out of the top flight in 2012. Gerrard’s side will now be hoping to go on and lift the Light Blues’ furst major trophy since then and bring one of the most difficult spells in the club’s history to an end.
