£55,000-a-week Newcastle fringe player is so well paid the clubs he wants to join can’t afford him
Eddie Howe wants to keep hold of one Newcastle star until the end of the season amid speculation linking him with a move in the January transfer window.
Newcastle’s 3-1 defeat at Brentford leaves the Toon languishing in 14th in the Premier League table, just two points above the relegation zone.
Howe is coming under pressure at Newcastle for their mixed form, which has seen the Tyneside club fail to win on the road since April in the league.
The club had a tough summer transfer window, and the activity they do in January may determine their final league position.

Eddie Howe wants to keep Emil Krafth
Emil Krafth is being pursued by FC Copenhaegen, with the defender having started just three times for Newcastle this season, and his contract expiring at the end of the campaign.
However, as per fotboll direkt, [11 November], Krafth’s salary is said to be a major hurdle that the Danish side will not be able to overcome.
“The 31-year-old Swede has a weekly salary of 55,000 pounds, which corresponds to a whopping 680,000 kronor,” fotboll direkt reported.
“Krafth reportedly does not want to lose that level prematurely and his plan is to stay on contract until next summer.

“Add to that the fact that manager Eddie Howe reportedly wants to hold on to his Swede given the club’s injury situation on the right side.”
Krafth’s representative Patrick Mork then told fotboll direkt: “It’s not relevant. FCK is a great club, but his salary is far too high for any club in Scandinavia.”

Howe aims for midfield reinforcements
Newcastle could replace Joelinton in the January transfer window as Howe looks to bolster his midfield options in the long-term.
The North East club also want to tie down Bruno Guimaraes to a new contract following Sandro Tonali’s commitment to Newcastle.
Deals may be hard to come by in January, with the club wanting to bring back Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliott Anderson.
