Joao Pedro posts update away from Brighton as Newcastle talks intensify

Joao Pedro has posted an update regarding his current focus amid constant transfer speculation linking him with a move to Newcastle.

Newcastle are preparing for a busy summer transfer window after securing a return to the Champions League with a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League.

However, they’ve already been dealt a blow in the race for one of their top attacking targets. Football Insider revealed Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, while Tottenham have also entered the race for the forward.

In response, the Magpies have acted swiftly to look for alternatives as Newcastle are in talks to sign Brighton’s Joao Pedro.

Brighton are open to selling the Brazilian forward, who has drawn interest following another promising campaign. Amid the growing speculation, Pedro shared a brief message on Instagram that hinted where his current focus lies, giving fans a subtle insight into his mindset as transfer discussions continue.

While enjoying a break, the forward’s situation at the Seagulls remains uncertain. Football Insider revealed Brighton are seeking a fee of between £50–£60 million for Pedro.

He impressed in the 2024/25 campaign, earning a nomination for the Premier League Young Player of the Season after scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists across all competitions. Despite that success, the 23-year-old is eyeing a move away, with Newcastle currently in a strong position to complete a deal.

However, Pedro has also faced criticism for on-pitch behaviour, particularly for incidents of simulation and moments of poor temperament.

Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett told Football Insider that Eddie Howe will likely speak to Pedro to address concerns and help eliminate acts of simulation from his game ahead of a potential switch to St James’ Park.

With a new forward potentially arriving, the Magpies appear more open to selling one of their existing stars.

Football Insider has reported that Liverpool have been informed they could sign Anthony Gordon if they submit a bid in the region of £75–85 million.

The 24-year-old lost his starting place to Harvey Barnes towards the end of the season, leading to speculation about his future. Liverpool retain a strong interest in the winger, especially with Luis Diaz linked with a move away from Anfield.

It remains to be seen whether the Merseyside club will follow through with a formal offer for Gordon, but with Newcastle making moves in the market, his situation could soon develop further.
