Johnstone: Two Rangers players blew me away in win over Aberdeen
Rangers legend Derek Johnstone has admitted he was blown away by two of the Ibrox side’s stars – singling out Ross McCrorie and Bruno Alves for praise after the 3-0 win over the Dons.
McCrorie picked up the man of the match award after starring as the defensive midfielder in Graeme Murty’s revamped midfield diamond while Alves had arguably his best game since joining the Gers from Serie A side Cagliari over the summer.
Since making the breakthrough into the first-team in September, McCrorie has continued to wow fans with a string of impressive performances.
Johnstone believes Alves’ return to the starting XI will have helped McCrorie in what was ultimately a solid team performance from the Ibrox giants.
“For me, (McCrorie) was the Man of the Match at Ibrox,” Johnstone said, as quoted by the Evening Times.
“I thought he was outstanding.

“Having Bruno Alves back in the side helped him and he was another that played really well. He was immense at the back.
“The whole team performed well as a unit but young McCrorie carried out his task brilliantly.
“It is a hard position to play when you have got to defend but also get on the ball and pass it but he played it really well.”
McCrorie has made 11 appearances for the Gers this season since making his debut away to Partick Thistle and grabbed his first goal first senior goal for the Light Blues when the Jags visited Ibrox last month.
Portuguese international Alves missed the two defeats in the run-up to Wednesday’s clash with Aberdeen after suffering a fall and injuring his back.
The veteran has taken his time to get up to speed with life in Scottish football but looks to be finally getting used to the rough and tumble of the SPFL.
In other Rangers news, Graeme Murty has claimed that his summer signing was a bargain buy.
