‘Just noise’ – Mark Goldbridge makes bold Benjamin Sesko claim as transfer battle explodes

Manchester United have been told they’re leading the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as they battle with Newcastle for his services.

22-year-old Sesko has been the subject of speculation all summer, with Arsenal originally exploring a move before they signed Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Man United have acquired Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, but boss Ruben Amorim still wants a striker with Rasmus Hojlund set to depart and Joshua Zirkzee yet to prove a success at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are expected to lose star Alexander Isak, with the Swedish striker a target for Premier League champions Liverpool.

According to The United Stand presenter Mark Goldbridge has claimed Newcastle’s bid for Sesko “just look like noise,” and he is “absolutely convinced we [Man United] get Sesko.”

Goldbridge has previously been critical of Man United’s transfer business including their pursuit of Mbeumo, before the Cameroon international signed from Brentford.

Sesko is valued from around £70million by RB Leipzig, but United have been warned that the signing could prove disastrous.

Newcastle have lined up Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins in case a deal for Sesko cannot be reached.

Football Insider Verdict

The Sesko saga looks set to rumble on into the final weeks of the transfer window as neither Man United or Newcastle have yet been able to strike a deal.

Sesko’s final destination still looks uncertain and Newcastle look like they cannot afford to lose out on the striker amid their limited options up-front.

Any deal for Sesko may only be reached once Newcastle have sold Isak, another transfer saga that continues to drag on.

It does feel like the Toon are desperate for a forward, whilst Man United’s capture of Mbeumo, and their earlier signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, makes them more relaxed about the situation.

Ruben Amorim would want Sesko before the opening weekend visit of Arsenal, but it is not disastrous for the Red Devils.

Newcastle are the club under pressure to complete a deal, and ideally they need two forwards to also cope with Callum Wilson’s departure.

Brentford’s Yoane Wissa may fill that void, with the forward wanting to leave the West London club, and the 28-year-old is available for £30m.
