Celtic coach and former defender John Kennedy is the shock name in the frontrunners for the St Mirren job, after Jack Ross left for Sunderland.
Ross was announced as the new Sunderland manager today and Robbie Neilson is the favourite to replace him.
Neilson is 4/1 for the St Mirren post, with Kennedy sitting as second favourite at 6/1.
Jim Goodwin is the 8/1 third favourite with leading bookie BetVictor.
Back in 2016 Kennedy revealed that he was putting his own ambitions as manager on hold to continue learning under Brendan Rodgers.
“You always learn from everyone, when I have been on my travels, doing club visits, speaking with managers and working with different people.
“You take different things from different people but in terms of the rounded manager, the ideal manager, so far, from the ones I have come across, he is it.
“He has the full package. You get some managers who are very skilled in man management, you get some managers who tend to be more coaches – Brendan ticks all the boxes.”
Now it appears he might be ready to push out on his own and take the job at the Premiership club who won promotion by winning the Championship last campaign.
