Kenny is a 'brilliant signing' as Everton slash asking price to force through deal - pundit
Noel Whelan has tipped Jonjoe Kenny to join a Championship on loan despite Everton slashing their asking price.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted the right-back would be a “brilliant signing” for a second-tier side.
An Everton source told Football Insider (August 11th) the Toffees are prepared to let the 24-year-old go for £5million after demanding £7million in January.
He has entered the final year of his contract at Goodison, meaning he could leave on a free next summer.
Whelan suggested Kenny would be a top signing for a Championship side but admitted the price tag could put teams off.
As such, he claimed a loan move could be on the cards.

“I think you’re probably looking Championship clubs that could be interested in him,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“Even if it’s not the £5million, maybe a loan again with a view to buy. I think that’s what a lot of clubs would need to do. As much as it was a second-place finish for Celtic, inconsistent performances were there to be seen.
“I think a lot of clubs, with the pandemic, don’t have £5million to splash out in the Championship.
“They’ve got a look to get him off their books. A loan would be fantastic.
“I’m sure if Jonjoe Kennedy is not involved in the first-team setup and in the plans of Rafa Benitez, he’d be a brilliant signing for some club in the Championship.
“He’d bring plenty of experience and he’s got that experience already by playing at Celtic.”
Kenny played 16 times for Celtic after joining the Hoops in January.
The Everton academy product has made a total of 48 appearances for the Toffees.
