Kevin de Bruyne branded ‘terrible’ for Man City in win over Nottingham Forest
Kevin de Bruyne was branded “terrible” by Michael Dawson when he almost gave Chris Wood a goal against Man City in the clash with Nottingham Forest.
The Belgian’s return to the squad brought relief and confidence back to Manchester with a goal and an assist in the first half against Nottingham Forest tonight (4 December).
He set up Bernardo Silva after just eight minutes, despite suggestions there’s something not right in the Man City dressing room.
However, there was a moment to forget for the Belgian after almost allowing Chris Wood a gilt-edged opportunity with a misplaced pass to Ruben Dias.
During Sky Sports Soccer Special, Dawson said of the New Zealand forward (8.02pm) “He’s got nine Premier League goals this season, he should have had 10. It’s an early Christmas present for Chris Wood.
“Dias plays a ball into De Bruyne, back to goal inside the Nottingham Forest half, he goes to play it back to Dias, terrible pass, plays it past him.
“Chris Wood goes one-on-one with [Stefan] Ortega. Ortega goes down to his left, Chris Wood tries to put it in the opposite direction, misses the post. 1-0, should have been 1-1.”
But during the former Hull City defender’s description of that error, De Bruyne made his criticism turn to praise: “However, as I’m telling you that, there’s a goal. Manchester City, De Bruyne gives the ball away, not this time, he puts the ball in the back of the net.”
De Bruyne will always remain an important player to Man City
The Belgian may not be in his prime, but his quality will remain.
De Bruyne has delivered over 15 assists in the Premier League for the club in four separate seasons. That consistency isn’t easy to come by.
He has also scored a brilliant 70 league goals during his time there. His return of 4 goals and assists in eight games this season is also a decent return considering his limited minutes.
There are still question marks about whether he still wants to play in the Premier League with potential moves abroad. This includes the MLS, as there are reported talks to bring the Belgian there.

However, with his brilliant performance against Forest those questions will be answered on the pitch.
But the Sky Blues will need to be quick with a potential deal, as January looms. From January 1, the midfielder will be free to discuss terms with other clubs.
Man City travel to South London to face Crystal Palace on 7 December. The 33-year-old will hope he can continue his form.
In other news, a fresh claim has been made about Pep Guardiola and the 115 charges hanging over Man City.
