Lascelles is 'out of his head' and 'on his way out' of Newcastle after report - pundit

Frank McAvennie has slammed Jamaal Lascelles after it was reported he was involved in a bust-up after Newcastle lost to Tottenham.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Toon captain needs to be less aggressive.

Yesterday (18 October) the Daily Mail reported Lascelles had to be separated from Isaac Hayden after the pair broke into a “furious row”.

It was reported the players went “head to head” while “shoves” were also exchanged.

This is not the first time Lascelles has been involved in a confrontation with the player telling The Chronicle he came to blows with Mo Diame in 2018.

McAvennie insists this is no way to behave and claimed the defender is feeling the pressure after the club’s recent takeover.

“You have to be strong but there are ways of doing it,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“You can’t be aggressive. It’s ok to argue and to face off but you can’t break into fights all the time.

“Usually, players will talk things out, you can’t have players fighting like that.

“It’s not the first time he’s done it. I think the takeover pressure is getting to him.

“He knows he’s on the way out. When someone like that takes over and you are performing that badly, you are out.

“If you think you are safe you are out of your head. Listen, he sounds like a repeat offender and you can’t do that.

“Nevermind him being the captain, it’s just not professional.”
