By Amir Mir

Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle is a big doubt for the Friday night clash against Leeds – and fans of the Yorkshire club are pleased to hear the news.

The club confirmed on their official website that Gayle sustained a hamstring injury during the 2-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.

It is said the 27-year-old attacker is undergoing tests in order to determine the seriousness of the injury as it is not yet known how long he will be out of action for.

Gayle possibly missing the up and coming clash would be a big blow to Rafa Benitez, who is on the verge of securing promotion to the Premier League.

They will be looking to get over the line in front of their own supporters against a Leeds team hoping to finish in the top six.

Therefore, it’s not a surprise that their fans are pleased about Gayle’s injury because they are aware that he is a huge loss for the north east club.

However, there were others that felt that there are still a number of quality players that Monk’s side should stop, such as Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie.

Here is a selection of their messages:

Over the course of the season, Gayle has played 31 Championship matches, scoring 22 goals for his team.

There have been a number of occasions where Gayle has been on the sidelines which has resulted in him scoring only two goals in his last nine matches.

During the reverse fixture in November, Gayle found the back fo the net at Elland Road as the Magpies beat their rivals 2-0.

In other Leeds news, meltdown begins, these three games could ruin Garry Monk’s season.
