'Would love to keep him' - Leeds fans react on Twitter to 20-year-old display against Newcastle

By Will Butcher

Leeds fans were elated with the efforts of Alfonso Pedraza on Twitter after the Spaniard came within inches of doubling his tally against Newcastle.

Pedraza, 20, started against the Toon on Friday evening at St. James’ Park during the 1-1 draw on the left wing, in just his sixth start under manager Garry Monk.

The on-loan winger almost put Leeds into the lead within the first 10 minutes, as he cracked a thunderous drive off the bottom of Karl Darlow’s crossbar with his weaker foot.

Scoring just once for Leeds, Pedraza would have given his side the lead had the shot been inches lower, with the scoreline still at 0-0 throughout on Tyneside.

Newcastle finally took the lead through captain Jamaal Lascelles, as he bundled the ball home from close range despite Rob Green’s efforts before Chris Wood equalised deep into injury time.

Leeds fans reacted with praise for the Villarreal winger, while some fans questioned Garry Monk’s decision to take him off for Hadi Sacko just after the hour mark.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Pedraza will have done his chances no harm of earning another start against Wolves at Elland Road next time out, as Leeds remain in the hunt for a play-off place.
