Leeds fans react on Twitter to Sheffield Wednesday win against Newcastle

By Harvey Byrne

Sheffield Wednesday earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Newcastle on Saturday evening, which has inspired some hope in the Leeds fan base on Twitter.

The Yorkshire giants’ support took particular interest in the late clash which pitted close league rivals Wednesday against their Friday opponents.

Rafa Benitez’ men would have been favourites going into the clash as the second placed side facing the Owls, who were seventh before the meeting.

However, goals from Tom Lees and Steven Fletcher at Hillsborough meant that Jonjo Shelvey’s late effort was only a consolation.

This brought a number of Leeds fans on social media throwing the blame humorously at former defender Lees, while others felt they now have a chance of picking up a result on Good Friday.

The evening results have now meant Leeds stay in fifth, but Sheffield Wednesday have moved within three points of them in sixth, while Fulham are sat five points behind.

Garry Monk’s side can also still mathematically finish in the automatic promotion spots with 12 points separating them from Newcastle in second, but that challenge may prove too much for the team which is already exceeding expectations.
