Leeds fans urge Monk to select in-form summer signing against Newcastle

By Will Butcher

Leeds fans have urged Garry Monk on Twitter to give Kemar Roofe a starting berth against promotion rivals Newcastle on Friday evening.

The Yorkshire giants go up against second placed Newcastle at St. James’ Park in front of the television cameras, following last weekend’s impressive 3-0 win at home to Preston.

Summer signing Roofe, who joined Monk’s side for £3million from Oxford United after winning the League Two Player of the Season award, scored one of Leeds’ three goals against Preston.

Now, the former West Brom youth player could be handed a start against Rafa Benitez’s side as Monk looks for his side to avoid a repeat of the reverse fixture that saw Leeds lose 2-0.

Fans of the former Champions League side have taken to Twitter in an attempt to persuade Monk to start the in-form star, who will be buoyant after his recent goalscoring exploits.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Roofe has endured an inconsistent season with Leeds following his summer move, but fans will be hoping his goal against Preston could be the start of a run of form with the play-offs looming.

Three points against Newcastle could see the Whites climb to third in the Championship table, if Huddersfield and Reading both drop points.
