Phillips: Leeds target Galan could be worth 3x his release clause amid deal update

Javi Galan would be a “low-risk” signing for Leeds United and could be worth triple what they might pay for him.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalscorer Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed on Wednesday that the Whites have registered their interest in the Huesca left-back.

The 26-year-old’s release clause has tumbled from £7million to £3.5m as he approaches the final year of his contract.

Leeds are considering alternative left-back options after being discouraged by Brest’s £15-18m asking price for Romain Perraud, as revealed by this site on Tuesday.

Phillips insists that Galan is a sensible target for Leeds due to his low buyout price which could lead to a big payday down the line.

He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “I think anyone that you can get without breaking the bank is like getting a player in for free.

“Of course, wages might be a little bit higher. But you’ve not got much to lose. If he comes in and doesn’t do well, he’s cost you hardly anything.

“If he does well, you have someone who’s worth triple what you paid for him. Then you’ve got an asset on your hands.

“It is a low-risk signing and it might just turn out to be a good one for Leeds.”

Galan featured 37 times for relegated Huesdca in 2020-21.

He could be set to replace the exit-bound Ezgjan Alioski at Elland Road.
