Illan Meslier has “only just begun” his journey at Leeds United and would be foolish to even consider a transfer exit.

That is according to ex-Whites star Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the National reported on 27 March that the United sensation is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Four days later, this site revealed that Leeds are planning to offer the Frenchman a new contract as a reward for his fine form this season.

Leeds will not listen to any offers this summer for the 21-year-old and so any calls from the French capital will fall on deaf ears.

Whelan argues that the bright lights of Paris will not be enough to lure Meslier away as his work at Elland Road is only just getting started.

“It’s a testament to how well he’s done this season,” he told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“Any player that’s on the radar and in the media spotlight for doing good things, they are always going to get linked with clubs. It’s just natural.

“It should be taken as a compliment to how well the goalkeeping coaches have brought the young man through. It’s a tribute to the player himself that he’s been recognised by other big clubs for his hard work.

“But I think his work has only just begun at Leeds United, I really do. I don’t think he’ll be going anywhere. He’s a big fixture for Leeds and hopefully that will be for a long, long time.

“Why would you want to move anywhere else right now, even if it is PSG? You would rather play in the Premier League than in France.”

Leeds signed Meslier permanently for a fee in the region of £5million in the summer after he spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan in West Yorkshire.

He has established himself ahead of Kiko Casilla as Leeds number-one this season and has missed just one match in the league.

In other news, Leeds “would accept a £13m offer for 27-year-old who has fallen by the wayside”.
