Daniel Levy can pull off Tottenham’s best bit of business in 2018 if he signs Mousa Dembele up on a new long-term deal.
The Sun report that Tottenham are set to open talks with the 30-year-old midfield sensation who wants to move up to the £100k-a-week mark, which would put him near the top of the Spurs wage table.
The player who has been called a ‘genius’ by Mauricio Pochettino is widely acknowledged as the engine behind Tottenham’s recent success.
He might not get the plaudits that Harry Kane or Christian Eriksen get but Pochettino and fans know that Spurs wouldn’t be the same team without Dembele.
His contract runs out at the end of next season and now it looks like Spurs want him to finish his career at the club, something that will delight Tottenham fans.
He might be slowing down and he might be susceptible to more injuries, but that’s testament to the physical game that he plays.
Tottenham fans might be hoping for one or two big name signings in the summer but when you look at their squad it’s tough to see how it could be majorly improved at the moment.
A decent back-up striker, for sure, (Fernando Llorente isn’t good enough for Poch’s Tottenham), but the squad is rounded and dangerous.
It’s not hyperbole to say that signing Dembele up on a long-term extension would be the best bit of business that Levy can do this summer.
