‘Scared’ Levy is ’embarrassing’ as new Tottenham move to block Newcastle comes to light
Tottenham supremo Daniel Levy needs to grow up after reportedly trying to stop Newcastle United from securing new sponsorship deals.
So says former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider in the aftermath of Newcastle’s sensational takeover.
Mail Online (9 October) claim Levy has tried to stop Newcastle from signing lucrative new sponsors after their Saudi-backed takeover was confirmed.
It was also claimed Tottenham lobbied the league against the deal amid fears of increased competition for Champions League places.
This came as Tottenham denied a request for the club’s supports trust to meet with senior figures over their mixed start to the season.
McAvennie wonders if Levy is winding Tottenham fans up on purpose and slammed the club chief’s conduct.
“Levy isn’t even talking to the fans now, he’s blanking them,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He hasn’t got a leg to stand on, the fans have fully turned on him.
“It’s as if he’s trying to wind them up as much as possible. He thinks he doesn’t have to answer to anybody.
“This has all come from fear. Levy is scared that Newcastle could knock Tottenham off the map.
“He cannot compete with that wealth. Not being able to compete scares Levy.
“He tried to stop the takeover, now he’s trying to stop sponsors, grow up.
“Honestly, it’s pathetic, I’m embarrassed for him.”

Newcastle and Tottenham face each other in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Magpies are yet to win in any competition this season.
