Liam Delap ‘first out the door at Ipswich’ when relegation confirmed

Liam Delap has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season despite the struggles of Ipswich Town.

The 22-year-old has showcased his quality and ability to play in the top flight which has led to a lot of interest in his future.

The Tractor Boys currently sit 18th in the Premier League table and are six points adrift of safety, leading to question marks about his long-term future at the club should they be unable to avoid relegation.

Football Insider revealed that the Man City academy graduate is “desperate” to stay in the Premier League, which could lead to him looking for a new club this summer.

Industry insider Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider that Newcastle could offer him that lifeline as the club are plotting a move to sign him.

Delap is said to be high on the list of options for Eddie Howe, with the Magpies boss being impressed by his performances this season.

Liam Delap is expected to leave Ipswich

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has made it clear he believes Delap is a “quality finisher” which is what the Magpies are looking for.

“He’s one of the players that will get hand-picked from Ipswich when and if they go down,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“He’s a hardworking striker, an old fashioned type of striker, creates chances, not afraid to shoot from anywhere on the pitch, makes runs in behind and he’s a real pest, he’s a nuisance.

“But with that, a quality finisher.

“You just have to look at the goals that he scored in a team like Ipswich who have struggled the way that they have.

“He’s scored the goals that he has, it tells you a lot about the person and the player.”
