Lisandro Martinez and Ayden Heaven react to major Man United announcement

Man United’s latest major announcement appears to have the backing of at least two of their players in Ayden Heaven and Lisandro Martinez.

While the Red Devils are enduring a difficult period on and off the pitch at this moment in time, they clearly still have big plans for the future.

On Tuesday (11 March), Man United announced plans for their new stadium to replace their long-standing home of Old Trafford, where they have played matches for the last 115 years.

The new ground is touted to have a 100,000 capacity and cost somewhere in the region of £2billion, with an aim for it to be ready by 2030.

Man United duo drops hints over opinion on new stadium

The announcement of the new stadium has been given a frosty reception by Man United supporters, who appear unconvinced by the nature of the plans.

Given the cuts that have been taking place around the club and claims INEOS owner Jim Ratcliffe will need years to rectify Man United’s financial situation, it is understandable some may be wary of this news.

Even so, it appears as though some of the club’s playing squad may be more open to the idea of a new home ground.

After the club posted on Instagram as part of their official announcement of their new stadium, there were inevitably plenty of responses.

Among those to react to this news from Man United were Heaven and Martinez, with the two players both liking that post, suggesting they may be backing the club over the move.

Football Insider Verdict

It will be intriguing to see if either Martinez or Heaven are still at the club by the time they actually move to this new stadium.

While five years seems relatively quick to build something of this size, it is also a long time in football, especially at a club that feels like it needs to overhaul as much as Man United do.

Martinez is currently out injured for Man United, and only has a contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2027.

While Heaven may only have joined from Arsenal earlier this season, the 18-year-old’s own deal with the club is currently only set to run until the end of the 2028/29 season.

As a result, neither are guaranteed to be at the club in 2030, and that is even before potential delays are factored in, as is often the case with these situations.

With that in mind, there is clearly still plenty that could change at Man United one way or another before they move to this stadium, and it would be a surprise if that does not prove to be the case.
