Sturridge or Origi? Liverpool fans pick their forward for clash v Stoke

By Emma Sanders

Liverpool fans have been discussing on Twitter whether or not Daniel Sturridge should start ahead of Divock Origi for the clash against Stoke on Tuesday evening.

The 27-year-old has started just four Premier League games so far this season with injuries producing a number of setbacks for the striker.

Origi has scored five goals in his last six appearances and has been in great form since gaining a regular position in the side following Sturridge’s injury.

Philippe Coutinho’s absence has also made way for the Belgian and many fans believe Origi should retain his place in the starting XI despite Sturridge coming on as a substitute in the late 1-0 victory against Everton.

It was the England international’s strike which made the difference in the Merseyside derby as it deflected off the post and fell to the feet of Sadio Mane who scored the winner from five yards.

Sturridge is regarded by many as one of the best players in the Liverpool squad but after producing heroics in the 2013-14 season alongside Luis Suarez, he has fallen out of favour with Jurgen Klopp.

The German manager has opted to use Roberto Firmino ahead of Sturridge as the number one striker in a three-pronged attack, and Origi has been preferred after the injury to Philippe Coutinho caused Klopp to reshuffle the deck.

Firmino was charged with drink driving on Christmas Eve and it is yet to be seen whether Klopp will punish him, so there is a chance that both Origi and Sturridge could start in the Anfield clash.
