Sources: Ex-Arsenal star Matt Macey set for Luton Town medical today

Hibernian goalkeeper Matt Macey is set for a Luton Town medical on Saturday, Football Insider understands.

Luton have agreed a six-figure fee with Hibs for Macey and he is now headed in to finalise the move.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that there are now only formalities to complete before Macey is confirmed as a Hatters player.

The 27-year-old previously had a spell on loan at Luton during his time at Arsenal and he is now set to rejoin the club in a permanent deal.

This site revealed on Friday (17 June) that Luton had agreed to sign Macey following an impressive loan spell in Edinburgh.

Macey, who is under contract at Easter Road for another season, kept 18 clean sheets in 51 games across all competitions for Hibs.

The Edinburgh side have pre-emptively signed David Marshall on a free transfer from Queens Park Rangers to act as his replacement.

Meanwhile, James Shea, Luton’s usual number one, is yet to return to action after he suffered an ACL injury in April.

Luton signed Matt Ingram on an emergency loan deal in the wake of Shea’s injury but he has now returned to Hull City.

Harry Isted also played between the sticks for the Hatters a handful of times in 2021-22.

But Nathan Jones sees 6-foot 7-inch shot-stopper Macey as a more permanent solution.

Luton finished 6th in the Championship last season, ultimately losing to Huddersfield Town in the play-off semi-finals.
