‘Man United set for 7-figure windfall as Newcastle near transfer agreement’

Man United are set to receive a windfall that will come as a timely boost as they look to get several key transfers over the line.

Many may have expected the Red Devils to be in a position of needing to sell before they bought this summer, after missing out on Champions League football after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.

However, finance expert Dan Plumley revealed to Football Insider exclusively that United were in a much stronger financial position than many thought.

And the 20-time champions of England showed exactly that when they signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves in the first window of the summer for £62.5million.

United have since moved on to trying to secure Bryan Mbeumo’s signature, and the Red Devils look ready to rival Arsenal for the signing of Viktor Gyokeres.

And whilst Ruben Amorim’s side are yet to shift on any of their unwanted players, the club are set for a tidy windfall, according to MailOnline.

Man United set to benefit from Anthony Elanga sale

Anthony Elanga has quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous wingers since switching Old Trafford for the City ground in 2023.

The Swedish winger blossomed under Nuno Espirito Santo last season, registering six goals and 11 assists as Nottingham Forest qualified for the Conference League.

As a consequence, Elanga now has interest from Newcastle. As reported, the Magpies had a bid of £45m rejected, but after making an improved offer worth £55m, Eddie Howe’s side are “on the verge of agreeing a deal with Forest”.

Should the winger switch Nottingham for Newcastle, United will be owed an “estimated” 15 per cent profit from the sale, which would amount to £6m, given the 23-year-old was signed for an initial £15m by the Tricky Trees [BBC Sport].

Man United should go all in for Viktor Gyokeres

Football Insider Verdict

United initially looked to be making a concerted effort to switch their transfer strategy from shelling out on established stars to signing younger talent with potential resale value in the future.

That was on show in January when Patrick Dorgu joined from Lecce, with the Danish wingback an exciting prospect, but one that was perhaps not ready for Premier League football right away.

However, that has seemingly changed again this summer, with United targeting Cunha and Mbeumo, two players very much at the peak of their powers right now.

And if the plan is to sign players ready to arrive and make an impact right away, the Red Devils should be looking no further than Gyokeres.

There are arguments to be made that the Swedish striker’s goal tally is inflated by playing against weaker opponents in the Portuguese league.

But in European competition, Gyokeres has continued to score at will, netting six in eight Champions League appearances in the 2024/25 season, and five in nine Europa League appearances the season before.
