‘Man United to pay Marcus Rashford buyers to take 2nd Ruben Amorim cast off’

Man United have been told that whoever buys Marcus Rashford should take Antony along with him, by Troy Deeney.

The Brazilian was handed a rare start as the Red Devils faced Tottenham in a dramatic 4-3 Carabao Cup loss. Rashford was absent from the squad once again.

However, Antony failed to seize his opportunity, as he was substituted after just 55 minutes after Spurs made it 3-0. The substitutes who replaced him, Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo, made an immediate impact, each scoring within minutes of coming on.

Former Watford striker Troy Deeney shared his frustration with the winger’s performance while speaking to CBS Sports. He said: “As soon as they took Antony off. As soon as Man United took Antony off, everyone else started running.

“They’ve got to cut ties with him. I don’t want to make him a scapegoat, but watching him is so frustrating. This is your big moment. He doesn’t run, he doesn’t sprint, he doesn’t add any value.

“Just get him out. You’re getting rid of Marcus Rashford? Whoever is taking him, they’ll pay you to take him [Antony] as well”.

Rashford was again left out of the squad for the subsequent 3-0 Premier League defeat to Bournemouth on 22 December, where Antony was an unused substitute.

Ruben Amorim has a difficult task with Man United

Football Insider opinion

The winger has struggled to make an impact since his high-profile €95 million (£81.3m) transfer in 2022 [BBC Sport].

In 92 appearances for Manchester United, Antony has managed just 12 goals and five assists, a return that highlights the frustration surrounding his performances.

Meanwhile, other wingers like Amad Diallo, have risen to the occasion and could soon be rewarded for their contributions.

Man United Antony
Ruben Amorim isn’t expected to have any use for Antony at Man United.

However, with the club reportedly considering the sale of academy graduate Rashford and tensions brewing with Alejandro Garnacho, selling all three wingers would be a risky move.

The hierarchy appears willing to support their new coach but face significant “pressure” to sell players due to profit and sustainability regulations. This financial strain makes immediate reinforcements in the winger position unlikely.

Amorim’s side need improvement on the flanks, as none of their current options deliver consistent output.

Football Insider has revealed interest in Southampton’s Tyler Dibling, but the club needs players who can make an instant impact.

Whether Antony moves on or the team brings in another winger to bolster their faltering season remains to be seen.
